Putriment wins high jump with ECAC mark as Gators compete at Capital District Championship

Troy, NY –The Sage College's women's outdoor track and field team was action at the Capital District Championship on the campus of RPI on Saturday. The Gators had a banner afternoon at the meet as both personal and school records were set, while another performer posted an ECAC Qualifying mark in the women's high jump.

For Sage's women's team, senior Helen Putriment (Troy, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) won the women's high jump with a school record performance of 1.59 meters. She won the event, marking the first victory by a Sage female track and field performer in the two year history of the team. She was in a jump off with SUNY-Delhi's Nina Zesky and won with her ECAC Division III qualifying mark of 1.59 meters, another Sage program first.

Putriment added a ninth place finish in the javelin with her throw of 25.56 meters, while also taking 12th I the 100 meter hurdles (20.67).

In the 100 meter dash, sophomore Kelly DiBiaso (Bristol, CT/Saint Paul Catholic) was 18th in 16.33, while sophomore Sharmise Pratt (New York, NY/Urban Assembly for Careers in Sports) was next in ninth in 16.71. In the 200 meter dash, DiBiaso was 27th in 34.95, while Pratt was 29th in 36.06.

In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Sarah Montgomery (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) picked up 19th with her time of 1:30.37. Montgomery was 16th in the javelin with her throw of 18.03 meters.

In the 800 meter run, Sage's sophomore Lauren Belfast (Ilion, NY/Ilion) took 17th in 2:47.74, while junior Victoria Bunk (Franklin, NH/Bishop Brady) was 29th in 3:26.95.  5.84, while junior Ellyn Fisher (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) took home 12th in 3:00.22. Belfast also picked up 30th in the 1,500 meter run in 5:48.43, while Fisher was 33rd in 5:52.86.

In the long jump, sophomore Krystal Lambert (Brooklyn, NY/John Dewey) picked up 7th with her performance of 4.88 meters. Rookie Samantha Mears (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) was next in 15th (4.45 m), while freshman Sarah VanAernem (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) picked up 16th (4.38 m), and freshman Alyssa Tatro (Constable, NY/Franklin Academy) was 21st (4.01 m). VanAernem was seventh in the high jump with her leap of 1.34 meters and she was also 7th in the 100 meter hurdles (18.10).

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, freshman Samantha Phelps (Amsterdam, NY/Fonda Fultonville) collected 12th in 14:35.50.

Sage took home sixth in the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 55.08 behind the work of Lambert, Tatro, VanAernem, and freshman Adrienne Dudla (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater). The Gators also added a third place finish in the women's 4 x 800 relay in 12:54.94 as Belfast, Bunk, Fisher and senior Alaina Krueger (Selkirk, NY/RCS) competed.
