Albany, NY—The Sage College's women's basketball team hosted the Dutchwomen of Union College in Kahl Gym in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night. Sage tallied a 58-44 win to extend the team's win streak to seven games as they improve to 13-5, while Union's four game win streak is halted as the Dutchwomen drops to 13-8.
Sage's senior guard Megan Bowman (Dannemora, NY/Saranac) finished the night with a game-high 26 points as she had 13 points in each half. She shot 60.0% in the first half, making 6-of-10 from the floor. She added six assists with five steals. Already the Gators' career assist leader, she now has 420 assists. She now has 970 career points and is just 30 points away from becoming the newest member of Sage's 1,000 point club which has only three members.
The Gators also got nine points each from rookie Gen Schoff (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) and sophomore Frankie Pearson (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central), while Schoff hauled in a team-high seven rebounds with a pair of blocked shots for the Gators.
Union's sophomore guard Natalie Leone (Ashland, MA/Ashland) finished with 12 points and five rebounds and four assists to pace the team. Senior forward Kate Thompson (Clinton, NY/Clinton) hauled in a game-best 10 rebounds with eight defensive boards and added six points with four blocked shots.
Union led 2-0 before Sage took a 3-2 lead and after a 3-3 tie at 17:05, the game was never tied again. Sage led by as many as 15 points in the first half (28-13, 8:38). In the second half, Union cut the lead to just eight points at 14:52 (43-35) as Leone added a jumper and a layup and Thompson hit a layup to spur the charge. Sage answered on a strong run as Bowman made a series of steals and layups to give the Gators a 17 point lead (52-35, 12:08).
Originally scheduled for Monday night, the game was postponed until Tuesday. The game start was delayed even more as there were no officials for the 7 p.m. start. After an hour delay, the game started with two officials and by halftime a third was in place for the contest.
Sage returns to action on February 11 travelling to Purchase College for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference contest. Union returns to the court hosting Clarkson at 6 p.m. on February 13.
