Sage was represented by student-athletes from 12 different states throughout the past year including: New York; Connecticut; Massachusetts; Maine, Vermont; New Hampshire, New Jersey; Rhode Island, Florida, Missouri, Texas, and California.
Sage's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Community Service: Sage's SAAC has been extremely active in the local and regional community in the past few years. Among the many annual activities the group supports are the School Supply Drive, Chompers’ Reading program, Albany Area Toys For Tots Drive, Yards for Yeardley, and the Ronald McDonald House. Sage teams have supported a number of other causes including Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and MS Walk in May, 2015. Sage teams participated in the Making Strides Fundraiser as well as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Walk.
Sage student-athletes are supported by a sports medicine staff that includes two NATABOC-certified athletic trainers. The sports medicine staff administers all phases of preventive training, care and injury rehabilitation. The staff also provides analysis to athletes on sport-specific nutrition, strength training and conditioning.
Russell Sage College's Athletic program combines student-athletes from both the campus located in Troy, NY and the campus located in Albany, NY. Together, the Gators have expanded from just five women’s teams in 2007 to 21 NCAA Division III varsity sports for both men and women in 2020-2021.
Sage is a member of the Empire 8 with teams from New York and New Jersey conducts championships for 22 sports. For more information on Sage’s athletic program, visit www.sagegators.com.
Sage’s facilities offer a variety of amenities including fitness centers, indoor multi-purpose space with artificial turf in the Armory, as well as outdoor field space. The Gators have three separate facilities in various locations throughout Russell Sage College.
The Ellis H. and Doris B. Robison Athletic Center is home for Sage Recreation in Troy and includes two gymnasiums and the Gator Pit Weight and Fitness Center. In Albany, the Sage community utilizes Kahl Gymnasium and the newly renovated FitStop. Both fitness centers are open to all members of the Sage community and boast free weight stations, complete strength training circuits, and Precor cardio equipment.

The Sage Junior College of Albany received its own degree-granting powers in 1957. In 1995, the Sage Graduate School became authorized to grant degrees independently, the Sage Evening College became recognized as a separate administrative unit, and the institution was re-chartered by the Board of Regents of the state of New York as The Sage Colleges, often referred to for the sake of convenience as "Sage." The words "Russell Sage College" now refer only to the college for women. In 2001, the Sage Junior College of Albany and Sage Evening College were replaced by a single entity, Sage College of Albany. In the summer of 2020, the College rebranded as Russell Sage College with campuses in Albany and Troy.
