Marcy, NY— Russell Sage College's women's cross country team opened the new season on Saturday as they ran at the SUNY-Poly Short Course Invitational. William Smith College won the team title after they scored 45 points on the day. Oneonta State was next with 51 points, while the Gators took home an impressive third place finish with a score of 54 in a field of five teams.  Megan Francoeur of Oneonta State was the medalist with a time of 17:22.6 for the 4 k course as RSC's sophomore Mackenzie Feeney (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) just missed the crown as she picked up second with a time of 17:37.4.

Sophomore Emma Cronin (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich Central) was third in 17:39.0, while newcomer Elizabeth Ingellis (Kingston,NY/Kingston) was fourth in 17:58.0.

Junior Evelyn Gile (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up 21st place in 20:21.1, while newcomer Crystal Ivery (Cairo, NY/Cairo-Durham) picked up 24th in 22:15.7. Senior Mariah Van Avery picked up27th in a time of 23:29.6, while rookie Morgan Rossignol took home 32nd place in 27:26.6.  Sophomore Hethar Scutt (Ancramdale, NY/Taconic Hills) rounded out the Gators placing in the event as she was 56th in 33:26.6.

The Gators are back in action on September 11 travelling to Vassar College.
