Flower places 10th at E8 Championship as Sage takes 5th

Pittsford, NY— The Sage Colleges' women's cross country squad travelled to the campus of St. John Fisher College to compete at the 2019 Empire 8 Championships. On the women's side, Houghton College won the women's championship title with a score of 43 in a field of eight teams. Sage's women's team picked up fifth place with a score of 123. The top two team finishers were seperated by just two points as Houghton just edged St. John Fisher College, whic took second with a score of 45.

Sage's sophomore Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) finished with an impressive time of 24:46.8 and finished in 10th place. Sophomore Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was the next Sage finisher in18th place in 25:37.1, just ahead of senior team captain Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) who posted a time of 25:50.5 and placed 24th.

Rookie Evelyn Gile (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up 30th in 26:22.3, while junior Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) finished in 41st in 28:51. 5. Freshman Morgan Feisthamel (Glenfield, NY/South Lewis) added a time of 31:06.5 and placed 48th. Sophomore Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) took home 52nd in 34:31.6, while senior Joanna Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) did not finish the race.

As a rookie, Flower finished in 14th place at the 2018 Empire 8 Championship and became the first Sage women's cross country runner to earn Empire 8 All-Star Honors with a selection to the Second Team. She earned another selection again this season with her 10th place efforts on Saturday.

Sage's teams will be back in action on November 16 competing at the NCAA Regionals on the campus of St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
