Flower honored as Empire 8 Female Runner of the Week

Rochester, NY— With the start of the new season comes the announcement of the first weekly awards from the Empire 8. Sage's sophomore Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) picked up right where she left off during her record-setting rookie season. She was selected as the Empire 8 Female Cross Country Runner of the Week.

In the first meet of the 2019 season, she led the Gators on Friday night at the Vassar Short Course Race as she was the first Gator runner in the event. She posted a time of 11:37.1 to finish in third place in a field of 40 competitors. An Empire 8 Second Team All-Star a year ago in cross country, Flower was also honored as Sage's women's track and field Gator of the Year, while also being honored as the Sage Athletic Department's first Female Rookie of the Year.

In the women's 3 k course, Vassar took the team crown with a score of 25 ahead of SUNY-New Paltz's 45 points. Sage posted a score of 59 to take third, while Mt. St. Mary College took fourth (92) and Bard rounded out the team scoring with a 125 to take fifth.

Sage's cross country teams will be back in action on September 7 competing in the SUNY-Cobleskill Stephen A. Warde Invitational.
