Poughkeepsie, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's cross country team opened the 2018 season on Friday night competing at the Vassar College Invitational. Vassar's men's and women's teams won the team crowns, while also producing the top individual finishers as well. Vassar Women's posted a team score of 15 to win the women's crown, while Sage women picked up fourth in a team field of five squads with a score of 104.

Vassar's Christina Prater-Lee won the women's 3 K race with her time of 11:12.2. On the men's side, Vassar's Jack Caslino took home the medalist finish in the 4 k race with a time of 12:46.8.

For the Sage women's team, senior co-captain Victoria Opalka (Forth Johnson, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) was the top Gator runner in the field as she took 16th in 12:23.2. Rookie runner Kerry Flower (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) was right behind her in 17th in 12:25.9.  Senior co-captain Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a time of 12:37.1 and took 19th.

Junior Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Colombia) ran a time of 12:54.7 and took 25th. Picking up 27th place for Sage was rookie Kristin McAlonen (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) in 13:15.9. Sophomore Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) was next for Sage in 14:22.6 to take 29th place and rookie Giannah French (Cherry Plain, NY/Berlin) added a time of 17:04.4 to take 32nd place.

Next up Sage will be back in action on September 8 at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational at Vassar.
