Sage runs to a strong third place finish at Siena Short Course Race

Colonie, NY – The Sage Colleges' women's cross country team made its 2017 debut on Friday evening under the guidance of new head coach, Zachary Williams (Cobleskill, NY). The Gators competed at Siena College's Short Course Race. Sage's women's team picked up a third place team finish in the field of four teams and were the top Division III team in the field.

Leading the way for Sage's women's team as they finished in third place with a score of 73, ahead of the only other Division III opponent, Union which posted a score of 109. Leading the way for Sage was senior    Shannon Farrell (Indian Lake, NY/Indian Lake Central). A year ago, the first-time cross country runner was the top finisher for Sage at every meet in 2016 and capped her season with a selection as the Gator of the Year as the team Most Valuable Performer.  She posted a time of 16:34.6 to finish in 15th place for the 4 k course. 

Junior Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a time 17:22.3 to take 19th, while rookie Olivia Leonard (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) was next in 20th place with her time of 17:33.6. Another Gator newcomer Sevi Travis (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) posted her first time of 17:33.2 to take 21st, while sophomore Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) posted a time of 17:38.9 and was 22nd.

Rookies Heather Dilcher (Colonie, NY/Colonie Central) and Sophia Keravich (Barrington, NH/Oyster River) rounded out the Sage runners with times of 19:51.8 and 20:04.5 to finish in 30th and 31st, respectively.

Next up for the team is competition on September 23 at the Bard College Invitational with the women's race starting at 11 a.m.
