Shannon Farrell Honored as Women's Cross Country Gator of the Year

ALBANY, NY The Sage College’s department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2016-2017 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. Sage saluted the Gator Award recipients in each sport and earning the honor in women’s cross country was junior Shannon Farrell (Indian Lake, NY/Indian Lake Central).  

Head coach Jim Bowles said of Farrell, “Shannon is the type of individual that takes herself, her studies, and her athletic ability to the next level.” He noted, “She will be a world changer and it has been a pleasure to work with her.”

New to the program in 2016, Farrell was the top Sage finisher in every single race this past fall. Among the many highlights, she competed at the 2016 NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals and took home 154th place in a time of 24:06.08.  A first-time runner after playing women’s lacrosse at Sage in 2015, she earned Skyline Conference All-Star Honors after finishing in third place with impressive time of 24:53.37. Farrell was the top Sage finisher at every single race during the 2016 season and earned Skyline Conference Rookie or Runner of the Week honors four times.
