Sayville, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's and men's cross country teams were in action on Sunday afternoon at the 2016 Skyline Conference Championships held at Broadway Avenue Park. Farmingdale State captured the women's team championship, while the Sage women finished in sixth place on Sunday.
Sage's women's team had two runners earn Skyline Conference First Team acclaim for their showings on Sunday as junior Shannon Farrell (Indian Lake, NY/Indian Lake Central) and rookie Amanda Jones (West Sand Lake, NY/Columbia) both finished in the top 7 in the race. Farrell, just missed garnering the Rookie of the Year award as she was edged at the finish by Briana Broccoli of USMMA, who took second just ahead of Farrell's third place finish in third place in 24:53.37. Jones posted a time of 25:18.53 and took home sixth place.
Over the course of the 2016 season, Farrell, who is a first-time runner having played for Sage's women's lacrosse team previously in 2015, has been the top Gator runner at every single meet this fall.
Sophomore Sagan Leggett (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted a time 27:54.35 and picked up 30th place, while Lauren Belfast (Ilion, NY/Ilion) picked up 37th in 28:18.56. Sophomore Julia Skoda (Philmont, NY/Taconic Hills) finished 69th in a time of 32:35.59, while rookie Joanna Tavolaro (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) recorded a time of 34:16.81 and took 71st. Senior Melissa Grimaldi (Nassau, NY/Columbia) rounded out the runners with her time of35:14.58 and finished in 91st place.
