Sage’s Millington Named Gator of the Year in Women’s Cross Country

 

ALBANY The Sage College's department of athletics gathered to recognize and honor the outstanding performances of the 2015-2016 year with the naming of the athletic award winners for the 15 varsity athletic teams. In addition to awarding the Gator Award, for the Most Outstanding Player, the department also named the 2015-2016 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, the Dean Sharon Robinson Senior Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, which is given to the senior student-athlete with the highest overall grade point average, and the Aggie Stillman Perseverance Award.

The Sage Colleges' women's cross country competitor, senior Amanda Millington (Chestertown, NY/North Warren) was named the Gator of the Year.

Head coach Jim Bowles said of Millington, "Amanda has led the women's team to a third place finish in every Skyline Championship in each of her four years at Sage. She has been an outstanding leader, and everything you look for in a quality captain."

Millington has been one of Sage's top runners over her four year career. The senior set a career personal best this year at the Steven Warde Invitational (SUNY-Cobleskill) with a 21:21.5 5K time. Millington has finished in the top 20 at every Skyline Championship Meet she has competed in. Her best place came her junior year with a 15th place (22:35.2), while her best time at the Skyline Meet came her sophomore year with a 22:23.4 (20th place). Millington has been named to the Skyline Conference All-Sportsmanship Team twice.

A nutrition science major, Millington has been a Skyline Conference Scholar-Athlete, a Sage Scholar-Athlete and Sage Dean's List honoree. She has been active in both the nutrition club and the dance ensemble team at Sage.
