Gators Give Back: Women's Volleyball at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society

RSC WVB at Mohawk Hudson Humane Society

ALBANY - Earlier this week, members of the Russell Sage College Women's Volleyball volunteered their time at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

The Gators helped the Society raise more than $400 by separating bottles and cans.

"Volunteering at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society was a great experience!" said sophomore Ashleigh Gerkman (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane). "Before this opportunity, I never realized the significant impact sorting recycling could have on the animals there. During our time, we sorted enough recyclables to help the organization raise $400. Volunteering is important because it not only fosters community impact, but also strengthens bonds within groups like our women’s volleyball team!"

Founded in 1887, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York's Capital Region, serving Albany, Rensselaer and surrounding counties. In addition to providing shelter and care for stray, abused and unwanted animals, we provide an ever-increasing array of services for animals and those who care for them. These programs contributed to a 93% live release rate in 2023, and include low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services, vaccination and microchip clinics, stray housing for municipalities, dog training, a pet food pantry and humane education programming for all ages.
