Gators Swept by E8 Standard

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College fell to visiting Saint John Fisher, the four-time defending Empire 8 Conference Champions, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-11) tonight in the Kahl Campus Center.

Junior outside hitter Katherine Jepsen (Hudson, NY/Hudson) topped the Gators with seven kills, while defensive specialist/libero Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), a grad student, the reigning E8 Libero/Defensive Player of the Year, elevated 11 SJFU attacks.

Junior outside hitter Macey Salvione (Johnstown, NY/Gloversville) added five kills, two aces, and 11 digs, while sophomore setter Emma Freidel (Utica, NY/New Hartford) contributed nine assists, five digs, and three aces.

SJFU (12-8/4-0 E8), now winners of eight in-a-row, held RSC to -.118 hitting in the sweep. Freshman outside hitter Kaylene Noble paced the Cardinals with 10 kills on .208 hitting, nine digs, and three aces.  Sophomore setter Reilly Morrow tossed in a double-double of 25 assists and 12 digs as Fisher extended its conference winning streak to 37. 

RSC (6-13/1-4 E8) hosts Nazareth tomorrow at 1:00 pm.


Notes: SJFU last dropped an E8 match on September 26, 2018...The fall marks the debut of Rosilyn Cummings at the helm of the Gators…She took over for Sandy Austein-Collins '87, who retired in March after 26 seasons of collegiate coaching, 13 of which came at RSC…Cummings registered her first official win on October 6 at Elmira…Salvione began the week leading the Gators in kill per-set (2.27) and digs per-set (3.88)…She has registered six double-doubles, including four in-a-row between Sept. 16-29, this autumn…Moisidis surpassed 1,500 career digs on Sept. 9 at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational...She entered the weekend fifth in school annals with 1,648 career digs…Kelsey Wilson '11 is fourth with 1,669 career digs…The reigning Empire 8 Conference Libero/Defensive Player of the Year topped the conference in both digs and digs per-set in each of the past two seasons.
