RSC Falls 3-0 at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – Russell Sage College kicked off the final week of its campaign by falling 3-0 at Nichols. The Gators dropped the non-conference match by scores of 25-19, 27-25, 25-22.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, topped all participants with 13 kills on .393 hitting.

Junior outside hitter Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added seven kills, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), who dished out the 1,000th assist of her career earlier this fall, distributed 17 assists.

Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), the Empire 8 Conference leader in digs and digs per-set, registered a match-high 16 digs, while senior defensive specialist Rylie Gray (Bombay, NY/Salmon River Central) elevated eight Bison attacks.

Nichols (15-8) received six or more kills from five different players in the home win. Sophomore outside hitter Luna Colozzo led the group with nine kills, while freshman setter Kya Burdier, who was selected the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, recorded 31 assists.

Looking ahead, the Gators (4-22) close the fall with three matches this weekend at the Skidmore Invitational.


Notes: The program has seen many career milestones achieved this fall...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…Moisidis, who topped the E8 with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs on September 10 at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament…She started the week sixth in program records with 1,339 career digs...Walker dished out the 1,000th assist of her career on September 30 at St. John Fisher…She entered the contest sixth in school annals with 1,205 career assists…The setter has tallied 12 double-doubles this season…Middle hitter Gagnon surpassed 500 career kills on October 14 vs. Elmira…She began the week 15th in program records with 541 career kills.
