RSC Wraps Up Home Slate vs. Alfred

ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College wrapped up the home portion of its schedule by falling to Alfred 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 24-26, 25-10) this afternoon.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, who became just the 18th Gator to surpass 500 career kills last night vs. Elmira, established a season-high with 18 kills on .364 hitting in the Empire 8 Conference setback.

Junior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added ten kills and 11 digs for her first double-double of the fall.  Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), who dished out the 1,000th assist of her career earlier this season, also recorded a double-double, passing out 23 assists and elevating 11 Alfred attacks. Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), the E8 leader in digs and digs per-set, registered 27 digs, while freshman setter Mia Wood (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) contributed 14 assists, seven digs, and three aces.              

Alfred (5-11/2-5 E8), which served up 15 aces in the E8 matinee, also had a pair of players accomplish a double-double. Junior middle hitter Casey Grange recorded 16 kills and 17 digs, while junior outside hitter Jamie Chun registered 13 kills and 10 digs.  Sophomore libero Anjoeline Armstrong totaled 22 digs, while senior setter Darian Ortiz, who aced six serves, distributed 36 aces and tallied nine digs.

RSC (4-19/1-6 E8) is on the road for the final six contests of the autumn, including the final weekend of the E8 schedule. The Gators play at Utica on Friday evening and at Keuka on Saturday afternoon.


Notes: Gagnon totaled 30 kills, 4.29 per-set, on .400 hitting this weekend...She aced five serves across the pair of E8 contests...Moisidis, leading the E8 in digs and digs per-set for the second consecutive fall, averaged 6.86 digs this weekend...The program has seen many career milestones achieved this fall...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…Moisidis, who topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs on September 10 at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament…She closed the weekend sixth in program records with 1,290 career digs…Walker dished out the 1,000th assist of her career on September 30 at St. John Fisher…She currently sits sixth in school annals with 1,163 career assists…The setter has tallied 11 double-doubles this season...Gagnon became just the 18th RSC player to surpass 500 career kills on October 14 vs. Elmira...She now has 523 career kills.
