Gagnon Surpasses 500 Career Kills

ALBANY, N.Y. – Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, became just the 18th Russell Sage College women's volleyball player to surpass 500 career kills tonight vs. Elmira. The Gators dropped the Empire 8 Conference match 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-23).

Gagnon topped all players with 12 kills on .455 hitting. Junior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added nine kills, while senior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) finished off five rallies.

Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), the E8 leader in digs and digs per-set, elevated 21 Elmira attacks, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), who dished out the 1,000th assist of her career earlier this fall, totaled 25 helpers.

Junior outside hitter Maddie Boucher paced the Soaring Eagles (7-16/2-4 E8) with 11 kills on .320 hitting and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Asia Curkendall also registered a double-double, recording 26 assists and 11 digs.

Looking ahead, RSC (4-18/1-5 E8) closes its home schedule tomorrow afternoon vs. Alfred. The E8 matinee is set to begin at noon.


Notes: The program has seen many career milestones achieved this fall...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…Moisidis, who topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs on September 10 at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament…She began the weekend sixth in program records with 1,242 career digs…Walker dished out the 1,000th assist of her career on September 30 at St. John Fisher…She entered the contest seventh in school annals with 1,115 career assists…The setter has tallied ten double-doubles this season.
