Balanced Attack Sweeps Medaille in E8 Women's Volleyball Play

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College had four players record six or more kills in this afternoon's Empire 8 Conference 3-0 sweep of visiting Medaille at the Kahl Campus Center.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, paced the quartet with 13 kills on .444 hitting. Junior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) added nine kills on .214 hitting, while junior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) finished off eight rallies. Freshman middle hitter Allison Louque (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) rounded out the group with six kills on .211 hitting.

Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), ran the RSC offense, which hit .267 in the E8 matinee, to the tune of 34 assists, while senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who surpassed 1,000 career digs earlier this month, led all participants with 23 digs. She was one of six Gators to elevate seven or more Medaille attacks.

Sophomore outside hitter Chase Luebeck paced the Mavericks (2-12/0-2 E8) with 10 kills, while senior outside hitter Halle Bogas contributed nine kills and 18 digs. The Medaille setting duo of freshmen Jessica Ramirez (17) and Avery Ang (13) combined for 30 assists. 

Looking ahead, RSC (4-12/1-1 E8) continues E8 play on Friday night at Saint John Fisher. 


Notes: Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…She began her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, with 373 career wins…Gagnon registered 52 kills, 2.91 per-set, on .351 hitting, as the Gators went 2-1 this week...She put down 13 kills in each of the two victories...Seven players, including Walker, Moisidis, and Gagnon, returned to the program…Moisidis, who topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs earlier this month...She currently sits ninth in program records with 1,160 career digs.
