Gators Fall to SUNY Oneonta and Misericordia

 ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College capped its weekend hosting the Crosstown Challenge by dropping a pair of non-conferences matches.

The Gators fell to both SUNY Oneonta and Misericordia by scores of 3-0.

Against SUNY Oneonta, middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, topped RSC with five kills, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) contributed 11 assists and six digs.  Walker was one of four Gators to register five or more digs in the setback.

The Red Dragons (5-5) received seven or more kills from three players across the sweep.

Freshman middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) paced the Gators against Misericordia with five kills on .333 hitting. Gagnon and Junior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) tossed in four kills apiece. Walker recorded her seventh double-double of the fall with 14 assists and 12 digs, while Moisidis elevated 18 Wildcat attacks.

Freshman outside hitter Meghan Peters led Misericordia (8-3) with 11 kills on .409 hitting and nine digs.

RSC (2-11) returns to the court on Tuesday night at Bard. The non-conference action is set to start at 7:00 pm.


Notes: Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, picked up her 375th career victory on September 14 vs. SUNY Cobleskill…She began her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, with 373 career wins…Gagnon totaled 52 kills, 2.60 per-set, on .141 hitting and 11 blocks across five matches last week...Walker had three double-doubles across the five matches...Kelley was a presence at the net, totaling 17 blocks, while Moisidis accumulated 86 digs, 4.30 per-set...Seven players, including Moisidis, Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), and Walker, returned to the program…Moisidis, who topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, became the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs earlier this month.
