Augstein-Collins Wins #375 in Home Opener

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College Women's Volleyball head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins garnered her 375th career victory as the Gators defeated visiting SUNY Cobleskill 3-2 on Wednesday night at the Kahl Campus Center. The home opener was tightly-contested throughout as the teams combined for 31 ties and 15 lead changes and had three of the five frames go past 25.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, topped RSC, winners by scores of 24-26, 25-19, 28-26, 26-28, 15-10, with 13 kills. Junior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added 12 kills, while senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who recorded her 1,000th career dig last weekend, led all participants with 27 digs. Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) contributed 32 assists and 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the fall.

SUNY Cobleskill had three players register double-digit kill totals. Junior outsider hitter Makenzie Larseon tallied a double-double of 11 kills and 19 digs to pace the Fighting Tigers (1-6).

Looking ahead, the Gators (2-7) host the Crosstown Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The doubleheader on Friday is set to begin at 4:00 pm.


Notes: Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, is in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall…Seven players, including Moisidis, Gagnon, and junior setter Walker, returned to the program…Moisidis topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall...She became just the 15th RSC player to surpass 1,000 career digs.
