Moisidis 1,000 Career Digs

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) became just the 15th Russell Sage College women's volleyball player to register 1,000th career digs this afternoon at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational.

Moisidis, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Co-Player of the Week, recorded 39 digs, 5.57 per-set, as the Gators dropped a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon. 

RSC opened the day by falling to Alfred 3-1, before closing its time at the Invitational with a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Mount Saint Mary College.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, led the Gators with 23 kills, 3.29 per-set, on .321 hitting across the pair of setbacks. She recorded 12 kills on .400 hitting vs. MSMC.

Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) contributed 35 assists and 11 digs on the day.

After starting the fall with eight matches away from home, the Gators (1-7) host SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday night.  The home opener is set to begin at 7:00 pm.   


Notes: Moisidis was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday...She received All-Tournament Team honors at the Morrisville State Tournament last weekend...The senior registered 70 digs, 4.38 per set, 11 aces, three assists, and two kills across the four matches...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, began the fall with 373 career wins…Seven players, including MoisidisGagnon, and Walker returned to the program…Moisidis,who topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall, now has 1,019 career digs.
