Gators Swept at SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College kicked off its weekend at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational by falling to the host Hawks 3-0 this afternoon. The Gators were swept by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-19.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, topped RSC with five kills in the setback. Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who was named the Empire 8 Conference Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday, recorded nine digs, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) contributed three kills, eight assists, and four digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Letisha Perez paced SUNY New Paltz (4-0), coming off a SUNYAC Tournament Semifinal appearance last fall, with 10 kills on .412 hitting. Junior setter Cate DiGiacomo added 16 assists, while senior libero Mia Waddel (Clifton Park/Shen) led all participants with 13 digs.

The Gators (1-5) have two matches tomorrow at the Invitational. RSC faces Alfred at 12:30 pm and Mount Saint Mary College at 3:00 pm.


Notes: Moisidis was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday...She received All-Tournament Team honors at the Morrisville State Tournament last weekend...The senior registered 70 digs, 4.38 per set, 11 aces, three assists, and two kills across the four matches...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, began the fall with 373 career wins…Seven players, including Moisidis, Gagnon, and Walker returned to the program…Moisidis topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall.
