Gators Pick Up First Win of the Fall

DELHI, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College picked up its first win of the fall with tonight's 3-1 victory at SUNY Delhi. 

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, led RSC with 15 kills on .263 hitting.

Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who was named the Empire 8 Conference Co-Player of the Week earlier today, topped all participants with 32 digs, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) registered 28 assists and 16 digs for her third double-double of the young season.

Senior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) and junior right side Caitlin Hammecker (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added seven kills apiece, while freshman middle hitter Aniyah Kelley (Newcastle, DE/William Penn) totaled five blocks.

The Gators, which took the non-conference match by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, held SUNY Delhi (0-4) to .059 hitting across the four sets.

RSC returns to the court on Friday when it visits SUNY New Paltz for a 4:00 pm meeting.


Notes: Moisidis was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday...She received All-Tournament Team honors at the Morrisville State Tournament last weekend...The senior registered 70 digs, 4.38 per set, 11 aces, three assists, and two kills across the four matches...Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, began the fall with 373 career wins…Seven players, including Moisidis, Gagnon, and Walker returned to the program…Moisidis topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall.
