Gators Fall Twice on Saturday

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College continued its opening weekend by dropping a pair of matches this afternoon at the SUNY Morrisville Tournament.

The Gators began their day by falling to Rowan 3-0. The Profs, picked to win the NJAC in the preseason coaches poll, swept by scores of 25-21, 25-10, 25-15.

Middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) topped RSC with six kills on .375 hitting. Senior outsider hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) added four kills, while senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) elevated 14 Rowan attacks.  

RSC finished the afternoon by being upending by Oswego State 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-27, 25-16, 15-12).

Gagnon paced the Gators with 12 kills on .304 hitting.  She totaled 18 kills on .304 on the day.

Junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) registered a double-double of 15 assists and 11 digs. Moisidis, who made the All-Tournament Team, recorded 19 digs, while freshman setter Mia Wood (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added 13 assists.   

The Gators (0-4) are back on the court on Tuesday at SUNY Delhi. The non-conference action is set to begin at 7:00 pm.


Notes: Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, began the fall with 373 career wins…Seven players, including senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) and junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), returned to the program…Moisidis topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall.
