
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Russell Sage College began its fall by dropping a pair of matches at the SUNY Morrisville Tournament.
The Gators began the afternoon by falling to the host Mustangs 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 13-25, 25-16).
Senior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) and middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), a graduate student, topped RSC with seven kills each. Gagnon, who hit .384, totaled five blocks, while junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) recorded a "double-double" of 22 assists and 10 digs. Senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), registered 14 digs.
RSC finished the day with a 3-1 setback to Misericordia. The Cougars (2-0) won by scores of 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 25-12.
The Gators (0-2) continue their opening weekend with two matches tomorrow afternoon at SUNY Morrisville. RSC will face Rowan at 1:00 pm and Oswego State at 3:00 pm.
Notes: Head coach Sandy Augstein-Collins, now in her 13th season coaching at RSC and 26th overall, began the fall with 373 career wins…Seven players, including senior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) and junior setter Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill), returned to the program…Moisidis topped the Empire 8 Conference with 492 digs, 4.82 per-set, last fall.
