Gators Open Crosstown Challenge with Pair of Home Setbacks

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College opened the Crosstown Challenge by dropping a pair of matches tonight in the Kahl Gymnasium. The Gators fell to Skidmore 3-1 and SUNY Cortland 3-0.

Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) totaled 15 kills tonight, while sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) registered 35 assists.      

Junior libero Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) accumulated 29 digs.

Knotted at 18 in the first set with Skidmore, the Gators reeled off a 4-0 run to help take the frame, 25-22. The Thoroughbreds responded by taking the next three sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-16).

Parkington topped the Gators with 10 kills, while Moisidis recorded 21 digs.

Skidmore (3-6) received 19 kills on .333 hitting from junior outside hitter Chelsea Winegar in the win.

SUNY Cortland (7-2), closed the day's action by hitting .403 in the sweep.

In between matches, Hartwick defeated Skidmore 3-1.

The Crosstown Challenge continues tomorrow afternoon at Union College. Sage (2-8) faces SUNY Oneonta at 12:00 pm and Plattsburgh State at 2:00 pm.
