Gators Conclude Crosstown Challenge with a Split

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College concluded the Crosstown Challenge by splitting a pair of matches this afternoon at Union College.

Sage started its day by defeating SUNY Oneonta 3-1 (25-23, 25-27, 25-17, 26-24).

The Gators, which recorded seven aces and hit .341 as a team in the win, had three players total double figures in kills. 

Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) topped all participants with 22 kills, a career-high, on .442 hitting. Senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) added a career-high 19 kills on .750 hitting, while junior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) (above) contributed 11 kills.

Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) registered her sixth double-double of the fall with 47 assists, also a career-high, and 15 digs, while junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) accumulated 18 digs, seven assists and three aces. 

SUNY Oneonta (1-9) had three players tally double-digit kills in defeat. Junior outside hitter Casey Biggers led the way with 13 on .305 hitting.

RSC capped its afternoon by falling 3-1 to SUNY Plattsburgh (26-28, 25-23, 23-25, 23-25).

Parkington registered 17 kills and 16 digs for her third double-double this season. Shepard finished 14 rallies while Gagnon put down 12 kills.  Walker dished out 42 assists and Mosidis elevated 25 Cardinal attacks.

Junior outside hitter Jenn Braun paced Plattsburgh State (6-4) with 19 kills on .395 hitting.

Looking ahead, Sage (3-9) hosts Bard on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
