Gators fall twice in tight matches at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College wrapped up play on Saturday at the SUNY Morrisville Tournament by falling to the Hood College, 3-1(25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18) and SUNY-Oswego, 3-1 (20-25, 15-25, 225-21, 25-22). The Gators stand at 1-3 on the year.

 

Against Hood, senior Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) led the way with 13.5 points as she had seven kills, 11 digs with six aces.  Senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) added six kills on .235 hitting with two aces, two digs and 8.5 points. Junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) added a team-best 17 digs, while sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) had 17 setting assists with an ace and 10 digs.

 

Against Oswego, Parkington added 11.0 points after she had nine kills, two aces, eight digs and had a .923 receiving percentage as she was 12-1 on reception attempts.

 

Junior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY / Canajoharie) had a .286 attack percentage along the way with eight kills, 11 digs and was perfect on reception attempts (6-0). Moisisdis racked up 16 digs for the Gators, while sophomore Katherine Jepsen (Hudson, NY/Hudson) had 13 digs. Gagnon had 14.5 points after she had six kills, six aces and seven digs.

 

The Gators are back in action on September 10-11 at SUNY-Paltz. The Gators take on Alfred at 7 p.m. on September 10.
