Trio Recognized on "Senior Night"

2021 RSC Women's Volleyball Seniors

ALBANY, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College capped the home portion of its schedule with tonight's 3-1 Empire 8 Conference loss to a red-hot Hartwick squad. The Gators (5-18/1-5 E8) fell by scores of 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-11.

Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional), one of three student-athletes honored before the game for her contributions to the women's volleyball program, registered the 19th double-double of her career with 14 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) also had a double-double, tallying 26 assists and 15 digs.   

Junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), the E8 leader in total digs and digs per-set, elevated 23 Hartwick attacks, while sophomore outside hitter Katherine Jepsen (Hudson, NY/Hudson) added 13 digs.

Hartwick (15-2/5-1 E8), now winners of seven in-a-row, received 18 kills from senior middle hitter Myla Dobson (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Senior middle hitter Toria Betelak contributed 11 kills on .417 hitting for the top offense in the conference, while freshman setter Braelyn Hornick recorded 26 assists and 13 digs.

Following a split of the opening two sets, the third stanza was tightly contested throughout. The period featured 13 deadlocks, including at 23, before the Hawks took the frame. Hartwick hit .314 to wrap things up in four.

Looking ahead, both teams continue E8 play on Friday night. RSC is at Alfred at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Hartwick hosts Elmira at 6:00 pm.

Senior Night: Before tonight's contest, Russell Sage College Athletics recognized setter Francesca Gigliotti (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional), middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), and Parkington for their contributions to the women's volleyball program.

Notes: Sage concludes the regular season by playing eight of its final nine matches on the road…Moisidis, who registered her 500th career dig on Saturday, September 11 at SUNY New Paltz, tops the E8 with 448 digs…She leads the conference with 4.92 digs per-set...The RSC libero currently has 825 digs in her time as a Gator…Parkington and Gagnon began the week among the E8 leaders in points per-set…Parkington is sixth with 3.32 pps, while Gagnon is seventh at 3.10 pps...Parkington recorded her 500th career kill on Saturday, September 11 at SUNY New Paltz...She ranks fourth in conference with 2.85 kills per-set...The co-captain, currently with 703 career kills, has 19 career double-doubles, nine of which came this season…Walker has contributed 11 double-doubles this fall.
