Gators Use Balanced Attack to Win at SUNY Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College had three players record double digits in kills in tonight's 3-2 non-conference victory at SUNY Cobleskill. The Gators (2-6) won by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-14, 9-25, 15-8.

Senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) led the way with a career-high 18 kills on .455 hitting. Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) added a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs, while junior outside hitter Sydney Shepard (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) put down a season-high 11 kills.

Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) continued her strong start to the fall, contributing 34 assists and 12 digs. Tonight marked her fifth double-double in the last six matches.

Junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who had her 500th career dig earlier this season, elevated 17 SUNY Cobleskill attacks tonight.

After dropping the opening frame, the Gators battled back to take the next two sets. Following a rougher fourth stanza, RSC forced the Fighting Tigers into -.111 hitting in the decisive fifth set. The strong defense put an exclamation point on the road win, with SUNY Cobleskill hitting a mere .042 in the second, third, and fifth sets.

Sophomore middle hitter Alexis Morales totaled 16 kills to lead the Fighting Tigers (0-8).

Looking ahead, Sage competes at the Sage-Union Crosstown Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The Gators begin the tournament by hosting Skidmore at 4:00 pm on Friday. SUNY Cobleskill (0-8) hosts Bay Path on Thursday at 7:00 pm.


Notes: Mosidis recorded her 500th career dig on Saturday at SUNY New Paltz...She now has 535 digs in her career...Parkington also achieved a career milestone against the Hawks with her 500th career kill...She now has 525 career kills...The two-year co-captain has registered double-digit kill totals in four matches the fall...Walker has had a double-double in five of the past six matches.
