Gators Win 3-1 at Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. –  Russell Sage College picked up a 3-1 Empire 8 Conference victory at Elmira this afternoon. The Gators (6-19/2-6 E8) won by scores of 27-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23.

RSC received contributions throughout the rotation in the matinee.

Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) and senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane), among the conference leaders in points per-set, paced the attack. Parkington registered 14 kills on .216 hitting, nine digs and four aces, while Gagnon added 10 kills on .333 hitting.

Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) ran the offense effectively, registering a double-double of 29 assists and 15 digs.

Defensively, RSC totaled 11 blocks, all of them solo. Sophomore middle hitter Monalissa Carius (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (above) led the net-front effort, tallying seven blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Rylie Gray (Bombay, NY/Salmon River Central) established a career-high in digs for the second-consecutive day, elevating 16 Elmira attacks.

Elmira (7-15/3-5 E8) had three players reach double figures in kills. Senior right side Sam Spraque led the way with 13 on .296 hitting.

Looking ahead, both teams conclude their regular seasons at weekend tournaments. The Gators compete at the Skidmore Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Elmira is at the RIT Tournament on Saturday. 


Notes: Sage plays its final five matches of the season on the road…It is part of a stretch playing eight out of nine games away from Kahl Gymnasium...Senior outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) and senior middle hitter Celia Gagnon (Troy, NY/Ichabod Crane) entered the weekend among the E8 leaders in points per-set…Parkington was sixth 3.32 pps, while Gagnon was seventh at 3.10 pps...Parkington, who recorded her 500th career kill on Saturday, September 11 at SUNY New Paltz, ranked fourth in conference with 2.85 kills per-set…The co-captain, currently eighth in program records with 726 career kills, has 19 career double-doubles, nine of which came this season… Sophomore right side Statia Walker (Schodack, NY/Maple Hill) has contributed 12 double-doubles this fall...Junior defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany), who registered her 500th career dig on Saturday, September 11 at SUNY New Paltz, tops the E8 with 448 digs…She leads the conference with 4.92 digs per-set...The RSC libero currently has 825 digs in her time as a Gator.
