Sage wraps season facing a pair of non-conference foes

SAGE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL WRAPS SEASON IN TRI-MATCH AT MT. HOLYOKE WITH NATIONALLY RANKED BABSON

South Hadley, MA—Sage's women's volleyball team travelled to Mt Holyoke College for a non-conference tri-match with the host Lyons and nationally ranked Babson College. Sage faced No. 16 ranked Babson in the first match, but fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-18) as Babson improved to 30-1 on the year. Against Mt. Holyoke, the Lyons won 3-0 beating Sage 25-22, 25-22, 25-12. Mt. Holyoke improves to 7-20, while Sage's season wraps with a 4-24 mark.

Against Babson, sophomore tri-captain Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) had six kills with 8 digs, while graduate performer Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) added four kills with a dig, a block assists and a solo block. Senior Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) added 5 kills and a team-best 11 digs and a solo block. Freshman defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) had 10 digs for the Gators in the match.

In the contest with Mt. Holyoke, Ryder had 6 kills, 3 aces with 10 digs and a block assist while connecting for 9.5 points. Senior Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added 2 kills with 3 block assists and a dig, while Parkington had 7 digs, 5 kills and a block assist.

Nethaway had 6 kills with 2 block assists and a dig, while Moisidis was 12-0 on receiving attempts and finished with 8 digs in the contest.

Saturday's matches marked the last career appearances for Sage's seniors. They included graduate performer Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville), and seniors Desiree Suits (Nelliston, NY/Fort Plain), Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth), Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown), and Caitlyn Class (Waterford, NY/Waterford Halfmoon).

Nethaway added 529 career kills, which ranks 15th best at Sage, while having also picked up 229 career total blocks that stands fifth best as she added 684.0 career points in 291 sets played over the course of 85 matches. She added 166 career digs and also finishes with a 1.82 career kills per set average that ranks 14th all-time at Sage.

Ryder, who twice during her career had 30 plus digs in a match, finishes with 800 digs in her time as a Gator. She played in 57 sets with 263 kills, 62 aces, 43 total blocks and 350.5 career points having earned a pair of letters at Sage.

Rowell played in 89 career matches at Sage with 425 career kills, 530.0 career points while picking up 360 digs, 122 career total blocks, which ranks 12th all-time at Sage. Rowell also had 35 aces in 292 career sets played.

Val Alstyne played in 82 career matches as a Gator and had 172 kills with 93 digs. Her 115 career total blocks is 13th right behind Rowell. She also finished with 244.5 career points.

Class was a four-year letterwinner at Sage and played in 45 career matches having worked in 73 sets, while Suits is a two-time letterwinner and played in 21 career matches.
