Houghton beats Sage in E8 volleyball action

Houghton, NY—Sage's women's volleyball team travelled to Western New York to take on Houghton College in an Empire 8 match-up. Houghton recorded a key Empire 8 win to clinch a spot in the upcoming league tournament as they beat Sage, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18). The Highlanders improve to 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the Empire, while the loss puts Sage at 4-21 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Graduate performer Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) added five kills with a solo block and a block assist for the Gators, while senior Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) added five kills with two aces and 10 digs.

For the Gators, Nethaway now has 510 and is in sole possession of the No. 15 spot on Sage's career kill list. She also boasts 221 career blocks and is fifth in career total blocks. Ryder now has 760 career digs with 59 aces.

Sophomore tri-captain Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) tallied two kills with five digs and a pair of aces, while five kills and added 10 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) added seven digs. Junior Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford Halfmoon) and senior Desiree Suits (Nelliston, NY/Fort Plains) racked up five digs each as well in the contest.

Sage is back in action on the road at Alfred University in a 1 p.m. Empire 8 match on Saturday, the final league showdown on the season for the Gators.
