Sage volleyball team rallies to beat Utica for key E8 win

SAGE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TOPS UTICA, 3-2 FOR FIRST EMPIRE 8 WIN

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Pioneers of Utica College on Wednesday night in Kahl Gym in an Empire 8 match. Sage posted a 3-2 win (25-13, 26-28, 20-25, 25-20, 15-9) marking the first conference win for the Gators in the league. Sage is now 4-14 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8, while Utica drops to 2-17 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Sophomore tri-captain Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) racked up a double-double as she had 12 kills with 17 digs and a team-best 19.5 points.

Sage got a season-best dig performance from senior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) as she added 31 digs. She had a double-double as well with 12 kills and had two aces while also adding just two receiving errors in her 30 attempts. She finished with 15.5 points in the match.

Graduate player Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) added 10 kills with a .286 attack percentage for the Gators with five block assists, and three digs. She is now 16th with her 489 career kills having moved ahead of Alyssa Nellis (2014-2017) with 482 kills. Nethaway is also No. 5 with her 216 career total blocks at Sage.

Senior outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) had a .412 attack percentage with eight kills and added seven digs with seven total blocks including five block assists.

Junior setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) racked up 20 setting assists with seven digs in the match.

Rookie defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) picked up 21 digs as well for the Gators and had an ace with just one receiving error in 20 attempts.

Sage is back in action on October 5 travelling to Skidmore College for a pair of matches on Saturday with the Thoroughbreds and with Lasell College at 10 a.m. and noon.
