Sage women's volleyball team rallies to knock off Bard in home opener, 3-1

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Raptors of Bard College on Wednesday night in the Gators' 2019 home opener.  Sage earned the 3-1 win as they beat Bard for the first win of the season. Sage is now 1-10, while Bard drops to 3-5. Bard won the first set, 25-22, but the Gators took the next three sets, 25-23, 25-20, 27-25.

Graduate player Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) led the Gators with her 20.0 points as she added 18 kills with a .429 attack percentage. She also connected for nine digs and four block assists. She is now No. 5 on the career block list at Sage with her 204 career total blocks. Nethaway also ranks in the Top 25 at Sage with her 419 career kills.

Sage's senior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin Perth) added a double-double as she finished with 28 digs and 11 kills and 12.5 points. Junior setter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) had 29setting assists with and ace and 19 digs. Rookie defensive specialist Elaina Moisidis (Albany, NY/Albany) had 13, while senior outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonvile, NY/Beekmantown) added nine kills with seven digs and five total blocks and added 12.5 points for the Gators.

Bard's junior middle back Mikala L'Hote (Pittsfield, MA/Miss Hall's School) led the Raptors with 14.5 points on 14 kills with a .325 attack percentage. Senior setter Jewel Smith (Atlanta, GA) added 32 setting assists with 22 digs, while senior defensive specialist Emily Anastasi (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) picked up 38 digs with five setting assists and four aces for the Raptors.

Sage is back in action on Friday and Saturday, September 20-21 hosting the Sage Fall Festival with Skidmore, Elms, Oneonta State, and Salem State all visiting Kahl Gym. Bard College is back in action hosting Mt. St. Mary College and Hartwick in a tri-match on September 21 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
