Unions collects non-conference win over Gator volleyball team

Schenectady, NY—The Union College women's volleyball team hosted Sage on Tuesday night in Viniar Athletic Center and collected the 3-0 win over the Gators. With the win, Union improves to 15-9, while Sage falls to 5-22. The Dutchwomen triumphed after taking the first set 25-9, but Sage rebounded to give Union a run in the second set (25-20) and the final set, (25-22).

Sophomore Renee Martin (Troy, NY/Troy) added an impressive .438 attack percentage and had a team-best eight kills in the action. Junior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) picked up seven kills with nine digs. Junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) collected three kills with three block assists. Freshman outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) added a .385 attack percentage in the action with five kills, 11 setting assists, an ace and a pair of digs.  Junior Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) collected seven digs with a kills for the Gators.

Nethaway now has 164 total blocks putting her 10th on the all-time list. She leads the team this season with 70 total blocks and is second on the team with 133 kills.  Parkington has a team-best 161 kills and has 206.0 points on her rookie campaign. Ryder leads Sage with her 32 aces and 359 digs.

The Gators will return to action on Saturday, October 27 hosting Plattsburgh State and Lehman College in a non-conference tri-match at Kahl Gym. Sage will face Plattsburgh State at 11 a.m. and Lehman at 3 p.m. and will honor their seniors prior to the final match at 3 p.m. They are Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) and Allison Bardwell (Whately, MA/Frontier Regional).
