Volleyball falls in Empire 8 Action

Pittsford, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball squad travelled to Nazareth College on Saturday for an Empire 8 tri-match with Houghton College. Houghton posted a 3-0 win over Sage in the first match (25-17, 25-17, 25-19). In the nightcap, Nazareth earned a 3-0 win over the Gators (25-7, 25-7, 25-11). Houghton improves to 10-13 overall and 4-3. Nazareth stands at 17-10 overall with a 5-1 mark in league play. Sage is now 5-21 overall with an 0-8 mark in Empire 8 play.

Against Houghton, Sage's junior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) and junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central), and freshman outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) all had seven kills apiece. Ryder racked up eight digs, while Nethaway added two block assists with a dig.  Parkington had 19 setting assists with seven digs and a pair of block assists.

Junior Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) collected 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) collected six kills, an ace and a pair of digs in the contest.

Against Nazareth, LoPorto had six digs, while Nethaway racked up three kills with four digs, an ace and a block assists. Parkington finished with four kills for the Gators.

Nethaway now has 161 total blocks putting her 10th on the all-time list. She leads the team this season with 67 total blocks and is second on the team with 130 kills.  Parkington has a team-best 156 kills with 241 setting assists and has 199 points while adding 149 digs. Ryder leads Sage with her 32 aces and 350 digs.

The Gators will return to action on Tuesday, October 23 at Union College in a 7 p.m. match.
