Skidmore takes win over Sage in volleyball action

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College on Tuesday night in a non-conference match held in conjunction with Sage's Dig Pink match to raise awareness of breast cancer. Skidmore posted the 3-0 win (25-13, 25-10, 25-20) and improves to 16-9 overall, while Sage drops to 5-19.

For the Gators, junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) and senior middle hitter Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) both collected four kills. Nethaway added three total blocks with a one dig and six points and continues her climb in the program's total block list. She boasts 158 total blocks putting her 10th on the all-time list. She leads the team this season with 64 total blocks and is second on the team with 120 kills. 

Freshman outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) posted 10 setting assists with two kills, five digs and five block assists. Junior Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) collected 11 digs, while making just two receiving errors on 24 attempts for a .923 receiving percentage. Junior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) also finished with 11 digs and finished with an ace and three kills.

Skidmore's junior middle hitter Katy Ehnstrom (Kaneohe, HI) led all the players with her 12 kills and collected a .333 attack percentage with three digs. Senior outside hitter Caite Canfield (Waterloo, Belgium) added six kills, with six digs and was a perfect 15-0 on receiving attempts action.  Junior outside hitter Sophia Hettler New York, NY/Columbia Prep) finished with four aces and had 15 digs with five kills for the Thoroughbreds.  Junior Bailey Hutchins (Rhinebeck, NY/Rhinebeck) collected 10 digs with four kills and an ace as Skidmore combined for a .216 attack percentage in the match.

The Gators will return to action on Saturday, October 20 travelling to Nazareth College for an Empire 8 tri-match with Houghton College. Skidmore College is back in action on October 19 at St. Lawrence University in a 7 p.m. Liberty League match.
