Monty has high of 11 assists in volleyball loss at Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - The Sage Colleges women's volleyball team was the visitor as Bard College opened up the home season Saturday afternoon. The host Raptors swept the match by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-18 to improve to 3-3 this fall. Sage fell to 2-4.

Freshman Storm Bookhard inished with a match high 10 kills for Bard, while adding two aces and two blocks. Co-captain Maracela Talamantes added seven kills and six digs and two aces, while Emily Anastasi collected 10 digs and three assists. 

For Sage, sophomore outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) finished with eight kills and junior setter Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) added 10 digs. Sophomore setter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Tocanic Hills) dished out a match high 11 assists and sophomore setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Halfmoon) added 10 assists.

In the opening set, the Raptors built big advantages of 10-4 and 20-10 en route to the win.

Sage actually established leads in both the second and third sets. In set two, Sage led 11-8, before three straight points by Bard tied the contest. After trading points to a 14-14 score line, the Raptors took over. The hosts scored 11 of the final 15 points. In the final set, Sage built an early lead, only to have it be chipped away by the Raptors. With Bard down, 16-13, the Raptors' scored 10 of the next 11 points and 12 of the final 14, to earn their first victory over Sage College since 2000.

Aces powered Bard on the afternoon, as the hosts collected 13 to Sage's four. The hosts also managed 10 more kills, 34-24, including 16 in the third set.

Next up for Sage is a Monday match at SUNY Poly at 7:00 p.m.
