Women's Volleyball Pulls out 3-1 Win in Home Opener

Albany, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team hosted the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi on Wednesday night in Kahl Gym. The Gators dropped the first set, 25-20, but reeled off three straight set wins to beat the Broncos, 3-1 (20-25, 25-9, 27-25, 25-22). With the win, Sage has won two straight matches and is now 2-3, while SUNY-Delhi falls to 2-1.

Sage's junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) collected nine kills with a .333 attack percentage while adding one ace with four digs and four block assists. Junior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) added eight kills with seven digs, two aces and was a perfect 17-0 with no reception errors.

Rookie outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional), this week's Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, added six kills with two block assists for the Gators as they combined for 10 aces in the action. Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added six kills with two aces, six digs and three block assists. Junior middle hitter Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) racked up five kills with five digs and four block assists.

Sophomore setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) collected 12 setting assists to go with her four aces and three digs.  Sophomore setter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) had 17 setting assists with six digs. Junior libero Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) picked up a team-best 20 digs and had just three receiving errors on 25 attempts for a .893 reception percentage with an ace and two kills.

SUNY-Delhi's sophomores Taylor Tsatsis (Neponsit, NY/St. Edmund Prep) and Haylee Lefebrve (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) each had five kills, while Tsatsis added seven digs with and ace and eight setting assists. Lefebrve added three digs and a block assist, while rookie Caitlin Curcurito (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) picked up five digs with three aces and four kills.  Junior Erica Prindle (Kingston, NY/Kingston) picked up 11 digs with four kills, an ace and 13 setting assists for the Broncos. 

The Gators will return to action on Saturday, September 8 at Bard College for a noon match, while SUNY-Delhi will compete on Saturday in a tournament at Pine Manor with matches at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with Pine Manor and Fisher College.
