Sage women's volleyball wraps Plattsburgh Tournament with win over Knights

Plattsburgh, NY—The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped up play on Saturday at the two-day Best Western Cardinal Tournament at Plattsburgh State. Sage dropped the opener, 3-1 to the host Cardinals of Plattsburgh State (25-19, 25-23, 26-28, 24-26) and then dropped a collected 3-1 decision to the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14). The Gators are now 1-3 on the year.

The Gators will return to action on Wednesday, September 5 for the team's home opener as they host SUNY-Delhi at 7 p.m. at Kahl Gym.

Against Plattsburgh State, rookie outside hitter Emma Parkington (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) added 10 kills with a .455 attack percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added nine kills with two block assists. Junior middle hitter Skylar Van Alstyne (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) racked up nine kills with an impressive .571 attack percentage. She added two digs and two block assists.

Sophomore setter Courtney Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford-Halfmoon) collected 20 setting assists to go with her two kills, four aces and three digs.  Sophomore setter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) had 23 setting assists with five digs and two aces, while junior Lidia LoPorto (Troy, NY/Averill Park) picked up 16 digs with an ace and a kill.

In the final match, Sage's junior middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville Central) added nine kills with three aces and four block assists. LoPorto picked up 34 receiving attempts, making just four errors for a .895 receiving percentage with 13 digs. Monty contributed 17 setting assists with two aces, three digs and a kill. Parkington added eight kills with a .500 attack percentage and Formosa added 14 setting assists with four digs, two aces and a kill.

Rookie defensive specialist Kayla Weaver (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin Perth) added four aces with four digs for the Gators in the victory.

Gabby Rowell earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her play over the course of the weekend.
