Sage women's volleyball closes season at Skidmore on Saturday

Saratoga Springs, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball travelled to Skidmore College for the final two matches of the 2017 season. Sage fell to Skidmore College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) and then dropped the second match to Potsdam State, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-19). Sage wraps the season with a record of 8-24.

Against Skidmore, rookie outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) had six kills with four digs and a pair of block assists. Senior Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added three kills with nine setting assists, an ace, a block assist and five digs. Senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) tallied six digs, while rookie outside hitter Zarissa Wheeler (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) added two kills. Sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville Central) chipped in with three kills and three digs.

In the final match with Potsdam State, Nethaway adding nine kills with a block assist and two digs for Sage. Nellis had seven kills with 11 setting assists, four digs, three block assists and an ace. Schneiderman has one kill, one setting assist, one ace and four digs. Junior outside hitter Amelia Taylor (Fort Edward, NY/Fort Edward) added three kills with an ace as well.

Nellis and Schneiderman played their last matches at Sage on Saturday and conclude their four-year careers while having left their marks on the program. Both helped to rewrite the Gator record books in their time on the courts.

For her time at Sage, Nellis added 482 career kills, which is 16th best all-time. She also had a .183 career attack percentage, which is 10th best. She added 92 aces and finishes tied for 19th all-time with Katy Rimawi (2013-2016), while also adding 193 career total blocks. She ranks fifth all-time in total blocks, while her .530 blocks per set average is ninth best. She also racked up 436 career setting assists, also ninth.

Schneiderman finishes fifth with her 1,427 career setting assists, while her 3.24 digs per set average is 13th best. She also racked up 132 career aces which is tied for 10th with both Valarie Bryant and Amanda Stemmler.

Both are also outstanding students and are currently candidate for the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
