Sage falls to SUNY-IT, 3-1

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball hosted the Wildcats of SUNY-Polytechnic on Wednesday night in Kahl Gym in a non-conference match. The Wildcats posted the 3-1 win to improve to 9-12 overall, while Sage falls to 7-19. The Wildcats took the first two sets, 25-16, 25-12, before Sage won the third set, 25-13. In the final set, SUNY-Polytechnic won, 25-15 to collect the victory.

Sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville Central) added 12 kills with an impressive .407 attack percentage in the action. She also added six total blocks with five block assists and added 15.5 points for the Gators. Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added eight kills with eight digs, four blocks and four block assists.

Rookie outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) had a five kills for Sage with four digs and an ace, while senior Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added five kills with 14 setting assists, 13 digs, two aces and two block assists. Senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) tallied 14 digs with a .921 reception percentage after making just three errors in her 35 reception attempts.  Freshman outside hitter Zarissa Wheeler (Poughghkeepsie, NY/Arlington) racked up 11 digs as well for Sage.

For SUNY-Polytechnic, rookie Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added a double-double after her 17 kills with 15 digs and a .351 attack percentage for the night on 17.0 points.  Junior Megan Will (Remsen, NY/Remsen) also tallied nine kills for the Wildcats, while junior setter Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, WA) added 37 setting assists with four aces and ten digs.  Rookie outside hitter Makayla Hulett (Colonie, NY/Colonie) picked up nine kills as the Wildcats combined for a .221 attack percentage in the match.

Nellis now has 452 career kills, putting her just one away from being tied for the No. 17 spot with Johanna Eckl (1997-2000), while standing in the No. 6 now in career total blocks with 180. She is now No. 9 in career setting assists with 356 and moved past Courtney Ross (345, 2004) on Wednesday night. Schneiderman has 1,351 career digs and currently fifth on the Sage dig list, while adding 128 career aces, which stands 13th best.

The Gators return to play on October 21 hosting an Empire 8 tri-match in Kahl Gym. Sage will face Elmira College at 11 a.m., while Elmira and Houghton College will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sage's day wraps with a 4 p.m. match with Houghton. Prior to the final match, Sage will honor their 2017 seniors, Alyssa Nellis and Missy Schneiderman. SUNY-Polytechnic is back in action on October 21 at Penn College in a 2 p.m. match.
