Sage women's volleyball team falls on opening night of Skidmore Tournament

The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball opened play on Friday night at the Skidmore College Invitational taking on the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle. New Rochelle was a 3-1 winner, topping Sage, 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15. Sage drops to 5-14, while New Rochelle is now 9-7.

Leading the way for the Gators sophomore outside hitter Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) led the way with her 12 kills and 12 points in the match. Rookie outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added eight kills with three digs.

Sage's sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) posted eight kills in the match, while senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team with her 16 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) had eight digs with a pair of aces for the Gators.

Schneiderman now has 1,246 career digs and currently fifth on the Sage dig list, while her 116 career aces is 18th best.

The Gators return to play at Skidmore on Saturday taking on Lasell College at 10 a.m. and SUNY-Cortland at Noon.
