Hartwick bests Sage in Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Play

Oneonta, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to Hartwick College for an Empire 8 match on Wednesday night. The Hawks posted the 3-0 win (25-17, 25-18, 25-11) and improve to 8-8 on the year and 3-1 in the league, while Sage falls to 5-13 and 0-3 in the Empire 8.

For the Gators, sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) had a team-best seven kills and finished the night with a .263 attack percentage with a pair of block assists. Senior Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) had a blistering .455 attack percentage, having added five kills in the contest. She also picked up six setting assists, two aces, four digs with three total blocks. Senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) chipped in with 10 digs for the match with an ace, and two setting assists and a pair of kills.

Junior setter Brittany Orminski (Galway, NY/Galway) added four kills with two digs and was a perfect 4-0 on receptions on the night for a 1.000 reception percentage.

Schneiderman now has 1,210 career digs and currently fifth on the Sage dig list, while her 116 career aces is 18th best. Nellis has 418 career kills and ranks 20th best all-time at Sage. Nellis moved into the No. 7 spot in career total blocks on Wednesday as she is now tied with Michayla Berard (2013-2016) with 165 blocks.

Sage is back in action on September 29 and 30, competing at the Skidmore College Fall Invitational. Sage opens play on Friday facing the College of New Rochelle at 4 p.m.
