Sage volleyball splits on final day of Sage Fall Festival

Albany, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team wrapped up competition on Saturday hosting the two-day Sage Fall Festival. Sage took the first match of the day, nesting Mt. Ida College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21). Mt. Ida then beat Rutgers-Newark, 3-2 before the final match of the event saw the Scarlet Raiders beat Sage, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22). The Gators now stand at 4-10 on the year.

Against the Mustangs of Mt. Ida College, Sage combined for a .373 attack percentage with five aces and limited the Mustangs to a .110 attack percentage.

Gator rookie outside hitter Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added a team-best 13 kills with a .500 attack percentage. She also added two digs and finished with 13.5 points in the match. Senior captain Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) picked up seven kills with two aces, 20 setting assists with five digs with three total blocks.

Senior libero Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the defense with 15 digs and contributed one ace with just one reception error in 20 attempts.  Sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) tallied six kills with a .357 attack percentage, while freshman setter Brooke Monty (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) had 10 setting assists with six digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) picked up six kills in the match with Rutgers-Newark. Nellis racked up four kills with eight setting assists, an ace and 10 digs and a block assists, while Nethaway chipped in a team-best eight kills with two block assists.

Schneiderman added 11 digs with an ace for the gators, while sophomore Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) added six digs for Sage.

Schneiderman now has 1,189 career digs moving her into the N. 7 spot on the Gator career list as she surpassed Kristiana Leniart (1998-2001) with 1, 168. She is also now 18th her with 115 career aces, while her classmate Nellis is now ninth with her 158 total blocks. Nellis has 396 career kills as she making her move into the program's Top 20 in the coming week.

Sage is back in action on September 20 travelling to face SUNY-Cobleskill on the road at 7 p.m.
