Women's volleyball team posts a split on final day of Hawk Invitational

New Paltz, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to SUNY-New Paltz Hawks Fall Invitational on Saturday and went 1-1 on the day after dropping a 3-0 decision to Montclair State (27-25, 25-19, 25-21 , but then posted a strong 3-0 (25-15,25-11,25-19) win over Southern Vermont College. The Gators are now 2-7 on the year.

Against Montclair State, Sage's senior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team with her 18 digs in the contest with one ace.

Senior captain Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added six digs with four kills, 16 setting assists, two aces with two block assists. Rookie Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added eight kills, while sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway (Fonda, NY/Fonda Fultonville) picked up seven kills in the contest.

Against the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College, the Gators got another strong performance from a number of players including Nethaway as she had five kills with an ace and a block assist. Schneiderman added an ace with three digs, while Rowell picked up three kills with an ace and four digs.

Sophomore defensive specialist Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) added 12 digs with an ace, while Nellis picked up four kills, nine setting assist with five aces, five digs and a pair of block assists.

Schneiderman now has 1,127 career digs and is currently in 12th place, while her 110 career aces is 18th best at Sage. Nellis has added 142 career total blocks and moved into ninth place ahead of Lauren LaRoque (140, 1996-1999) on the Sage block list.

Sage is back in action on Wednesday, September 12 hosting Bard College in the team's 2017 home opener at 7 p.m.
