Sage women's volleyball team opens play at New Paltz Tournament

New Paltz, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to SUNY-New Paltz Hawks Fall Invitational on Friday. The Gators faced the host Hawks in the first match of the tournament, dropping a 3-1 decision (25-9, 18-25, 25-11, 25-17).  Sage them fell to Stockton University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-6).

Against SUNY-New Paltz, sophomore Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added nine kills with four digs.  Senior captain Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added eight digs with four total blocks. Senior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team with her 17 digs in the contest, while making just two errors in 25 reception attempts for a .926 reception percentage.

Against the Ospreys of Stockton University, Sage's rookie Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) added seven kills, while Nellis picked up two kills with 11 setting assists, an ace, nine digs and a pair of block assists. Schneiderman had 15 digs with one kill, while Carrozzi picked up six kills with four digs in the action.

Schneiderman now has 1,106 career digs and is currently tied for 12th place with Sarah Busch (2001-2014) as she moved ahead of Catelyn Samoransky (1,093, 2004-2007). She is also now 18th with her 108 career aces. Nellis has added 138 career total blocks and is 10th all-time on the Sage block list.

Sage is back in action on Saturday, September 9 competing at the SUNY-New Paltz Hawk Invitational. Sage will meet face Montclair State at 11 a.m. and Southern Vermont at 3 p.m.
