Nellis and squad lift Gators to win over SUNY-Delhi; First Career win for Verhayden

Delhi, NY- The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team travelled to face the Broncos of SUNY-Delhi on Wednesday night in a non-conference match. The Gators posted a 3-1 win, beating the Broncos, 25-20, 25-10, 19-25, 25-21 to improve to 1-4 marking the first career win for Sage's new women's volleyball coach Robert Verhayden. Delhi drops to 0-1 on the year.

Senior's senior captain Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) had a tremendous night as she had a .375 attack percentage having racked up 12 kills with 12 with setting assists, five aces, eight digs and nine total blocks.

Rookie Gabby Rowell (Morrisonville, NY/Beekmantown) and sophomore Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) added six kills each, while Carrozzi added four digs. Rowell handed out two aces with 12 digs.

Junior Brittany Orminski (Galway, NY/Galway) helped the team in the match-up with her two kills, nine setting assists with an ace and seven digs. Senior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) led the team with her 19 digs in the contest.

All told, Sage combined for 10 aces with a .895 reception percentage on the night. The Gators held the Broncos to a 0.015 attack percentage as well.

Sage is back in action on Friday and Saturday, September 8-9 competing at the SUNY-New Paltz Hawk Invitational. Sage will face the host SUNY-New Paltz Friday at 3 p.m. and Richard Stockton University at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Gators will face Montclair State at 11 a.m. and Southern Vermont at 3 p.m.
