Campolieta and Berard provide one-two punch as Gators down Bard, 3-1

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team visited Bard College on Tuesday night for a non-conference match with the Raptors. Sage triumphed, 3-1 over Bard after posting a win in the first two sets (25-13, 25-23) but dropped the third set, 25-22. The Gators came back to take the fourth set, 25-18 and sealed the win as they improve to 13-14. Bard drops to 6-21 on the year.

Sage's senior tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) added a double-double in the match as she finished with 12 kills and 15 digs. She added an ace as well, while senior outside Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) led the Gators with her 18 kills and a red-hot .545 attack percentage. Berard connected for five digs with two block assists in the action.

Senior setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 36 setting assists with seven digs and four kills. Junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) contributed six kills with two aces and three block assists.  Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for 14 digs, while freshman Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) tallied seven digs.

Liebig, who is a CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee, now has 3,101 career setting assists which No. 2 at Sage. She has also tallied an impressive 192 career aces and stands fourth on the career list. Berard is also climbing the career kill record book as she has 868 and is 7th. She is also tied for 8th with her 151 career total blocks, while Nellis has 98 and is No. 12 on the program's career list. Campolieta has 494 career kills and is 15th, while her 828 career digs and is closing in on making the Top 25 in the category. Scheiderman has racked up 951 career digs and moved ahead of Joanie Cooney (No. 16, 949, 2010-2013) and is now 16th.

Sage is back in action on October 22 hosting a Skyline Conference tri-match in Kahl Gym in Albany with an 11 a.m. match against Mt. St. Mary College and a 3 p.m. match with SUNY-Old Westbury.
