Gators post two key Skyline wins on Sunday in volleyball play

Riverdale, NY–The Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team visited the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Sunday for a Skyline Conference tri-match with St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. Sage beat the Bears of SJC-Brooklyn, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) and then topped the host Dolphins of College of Mt. St. Vincent, 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 25-13, 27-25). The Gators are now 12-14 overall with a 5-1 mark in the league.

Leading the way in the first match was Sage's senior tri-captain Sara Campolieta (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) with 10 kills and 14 digs. She added an ace as well, while senior outside Michayla Berard (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) added 11 kills with three digs.

Senior setter and team tri-captain Rachel Liebig (Hartford, NY/Hartford) tallied 34 setting assists with two aces and six digs against the Bears. Junior middle hitter Alyssa Nellis (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) contributed seven kills with a .462 attack percentage. The Gators also got five kills from rookie Jessica Carrozzi (Warnerville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville), while freshman Nicole Groll (Southington, CT/Southington) added nine digs. Junior defensive specialist Missy Schneiderman (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) connected for 23 digs with two aces.

In the nightcap, the Gators were paced by Campolieta's double-double as she added 15 digs with 13 kills and tallied four aces. Berard had 13 kills with a .360 attack percentage and a trio of digs. Graduate performer, Devyn Morlock (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) also racked up 18 digs while making just one reception error in her 19 receptions for a .950 reception percentage.  Schneiderman added 23 digs with two aces, while Liebig picked up 31 setting assists with eight digs and two aces.

Liebig, who is a CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee, now has 3,065 career setting assists which No. 2 at Sage. She has also tallied an impressive 192 career aces and stands fourth on the career list. Berard has moved up on the career kill list as she boasts 850, which is sixth. She is also tied for 8th with her 149 career total blocks, while Nellis has 95 and is No. 13 on the program's career list. Campolieta has 482 career kills and is now 15th, while her 813 career digs stands in the top 25. Scheiderman now boasts 937 career digs and is about to move ahead of Joanie Cooney (No. 16, 949, 2010-2013).

Sage is back in action on October 18 when they visit Bard College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
